Fantastic Literature As in the Fantastic Four. Notes: FF is about the only Marvel comic I really like; dunno why. |
Farm Buyer General It's a barn and silo. Notes: "Bought the farm" is just a euphemism for dying. In our family, the usual response to such a statement is "But we're not zoned for farms here!" |
Ferengi Marauder Star Trek "The Battle" (TNG), et al. |
FireBird Video Games Based on the ship from the arcade game Space Firebird. |
Fish Bone Mister Bone A fish skeleton. |
Flaming Torch General A torch. Notes: One of my earliest ships. Tricky to fly because of the angle. |
Flying Key General A golden key. Notes: Another of my early ships, this design was based on the key in the DOS sidescroller Captain Comic. |
Flying Saucer Video Games The pesky flying saucer from Atari's classic arcade coin-op Asteroids. Notes: It's the little ones you've gotta watch out for… |
Folder of Doom Technology It's a red file folder with an skull on it. Notes: Obviously, I added the skull afterward. It matches the one on "Insect Killer" and "Monitor of Death". |
Freak Television …azoid! Freakazoid! Notes: It was (and still is) one of my favorite cartoons, ever. Random quote: "Aw, nut bunnies!" |
French Fries General It's a carton of french fries. Notes: Mrnexrad used this for quite a while. |
Frogger Video Games The frog from the classic arcade coin-op of that name. Notes: The theme music from Frogger is one of the catchiest in classic arcade games, in my opinion. (Especially in the C64 port by Sega/Sierra, which my brother and I whittled away long hours of our childhood playing.) |
Froot Loop General It's a Froot Loop. Notes: I used Paint's airbrush to make the texture. |
Fruit Bat Animals A bat. |
Fuel Thief General A gasoline can. Notes: For professional fuel zombies only! "Unnnnnnhhh...brains...fuel..." |
Galaga Video Games The ship from the Namco arcade coin-op of the same name. My best score on an actual Galaga machine is 113,000. (Not exactly a score to write home about, but oh well. At least the pizza was good.) |
Galaxian Video Games One of the enemies in the Namco arcade coin-op of the same name. I figured this was more recognizable than the actual ship you pilot in the game. |
Galaxion Literature Galaxion is one of my favorite web comics, which I stumbled upon by accident and (being a sci-fi/fantasy nut) liked immediately. Not to be confused with Galaxian, above. Notes: It's advertised as a sci-fi / adventure / romance comic, though it's presented as a long-format, page-a-week graphic novel. New readers should start here. The comic is generally updated every Tuesday, with an extra post on the first Friday of every month. |
Galaxy-class Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D, Star Trek: The Next Generation. |
Garfield Comics The head of the lovable fat cat from the comic strip of the same name. Notes: I made this ship with Arachnoid in mind; he loves Garfield more than any other comic. |
G-Clef General A G (treble) clef. Notes: The player Clef, who created TZX Rambunctious Modified, used a ship similar to this. |
Glass Knife Literature This is a reference to Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn fantasy book series. Notes: Mistborn use knives made of obsidian glass; thus, they contain no metal that can be used against them. |
Glaurung Literature Glaurung was an evil dragon from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion. Notes: Basically a scaled-down version of "Smaug", for better cannon mine spelunking. |
Golden Gun Movies, Video Games As in The Man with the Golden Gun. Notes: I modeled it after the Golden Gun in the classic Nintendo 64 video game 007 GoldenEye. |
Gorf Video Games One of the enemies in the Bally-Midway arcade coin-op of the same name. Again, I figured this little guy would be more familiar than the ship you pilot in the game. (It's probably one of the stranger ships I've made.) |
Grad Insect Arthropoids An Insectoid with a green mortarboard and silver tassles. Notes: I made this when I graduated from Poway High School in 2004. |
Gravitar Video Games The ship from the Atari arcade game Gravitar, on which XPilot is partially based. Notes: I added the exhaust for the color version. |
Great Serpent Literature From Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time. A serpent biting its own tail, a symbol of eternity. Notes: The color version of this will be much more… well, rounded. :) |
Grond Literature Grond was the Dark Lord Morgoth's mace in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion, and also the name of the battering ram used in The Return of the King. |
Guitar Bone Mister Bone It's an electric guitar. |
Gumba Ship GumbaWarrior This is the only ship on these pages that was NOT drawn by me. It was actually made by my dad when he started playing, and thus is the oldest ship here. Notes: Gumba, of course, has hundreds of other ships that he's drawn; but I felt like including this one here. |
Hatta Literature The top-hat worn by the Hatter character in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, with a card in the hat-band that reads "In this style 10/6" (ten shillings/sixpence). Notes: "Hatta" is the Hatter's name in Looking-Glass. for both the ship design and color rendering, I used Sir John Tenniel's illustration of the "Mad Tea-Party" in Alice. For the colors, I used the 1951 Disney film as a reference. |
Hear My Roar! Animals, Literature, Movies A (very) crude representation of a lion roaring. Notes: I first got the idea for this ship when I was re-reading (and re-watching) The Chronicles of Narnia recently. The coloring, though, more closely resembles the lions in The Lion King. |
Hell Yes Coke! Mrnexrad Basically a modified "Diet Coke" with devil's horns. |
Hell Yes! Mrnexrad A trident. Notes: Mrnexrad used this for both the "Hell Yes!" and "ShitFork" personae. Quote: "I AM SHITFORK!!" |
Highlander General A Toyota Highlander. Notes: No, I've never driven one. I drive an old Camry. :) |
Homes General A house. Notes: Homes is an alternate spelling of the slang term holmes (which itself may be a contraction of homeboy. As in, "Wuzz up, Homes?" |
Hopping Daze Animals A kangaroo. Notes: The name for this ship (and the persona) is a play on a Warner Bros. cartoon ("Hoppy Daze", 1961), and on GumbaWarrior's own "Shopping Days" persona. |
Hot Dog General A hot dog. |
Hourglass General An hourglass. Notes: This was tricky to make. |
Hurricane General The hurricane symbol. |
Identity Disc Movies A good Program's Identity Disc. Notes: Modeled after the new Identity Discs in Disney's TRON: Legacy, sequel to the 1982 TRON film. |
Insane Bone Mister Bone A Bone smoking a cigarette! Quote: "To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time…" |
Insect Killer General An aerosol can of insecticide. Notes: Substitutes for Raid in a pinch. |
Insectoid II Arthropoids My second Insectoid ship. Notes: And the second version of the larger shape. I don't believe a copy of the first one exists anymore. (Picture this ship crossed with "Stuffed Insect" or "GumbaWarrior" to get an idea of what it might have looked like. I've made several attempts at re-creating it, but haven't come up with one I'm satisfied with.) |
Insectoid III Arthropoids My third Insectoid ship. Notes: Reduced in size for better cannon mine "spelunking" on TZX-Mod. |
Insectoid IV Arthropoids My fourth Insectoid ship. Notes: Mostly unused in favor of the next one. There actually was another version of this ship, but I didn't like how it turned out, so I made a different one. |
Insectoid V Arthropoids My fifth Insectoid ship. Notes: The last Insectoid with a concave aft section. (I can't say "concave rear" without laughing.) |
Insectoid VI Arthropoids My sixth Insectoid ship. Notes: Beginning with "Insectoid V", I was trying to keep the inner and outer "legs" parallel to each other. |
Insectoid VII Arthropoids My seventh Insectoid ship. Notes: Has a slightly smaller inner section. |
Insectoid VIII Arthropoids My eighth Insectoid ship. Notes: Made at the same time as Arachnoid IV; notice that the "head" is slightly larger (exaggerated in the next ship). |
Insectoid VIIIB Arthropoids A throwback to the larger size. Notes: Uses the design of the Insectoid VIII ship (note the exaggerated diamond-shaped "head"). I may abandon this ship if I ever satisfactorily re-create Insectoid I. |
Insectoid IX Arthropoids My ninth Insectoid ship. Notes: Beginning with this design, the "head" was merged with the rest of the ship; the two small triangles in the middle are supposed to look like "eyes". |
Insectoid X Arthropoids My tenth Insectoid ship. Notes: The eyes are are more pronounced here; although, with the two clawlike legs on either side (à la "D1 Lifter", previous page), you could think of the ones in the middle as the last pair. |
Insectoid XI Arthropoids My eleventh Insectoid ship. Notes: The most obvious modification here is the straightened legs on either side; look carefully, and you'll notice that the outline of the ship vaguely resembles a hexagon. |
Insectoid XII Arthropoids My latest Insectoid ship. Notes: The obvious changes here are the further straightening of the legs (to emphasize the hexagon shape); this means two fewer legs, so I'm back down to 4. With the spare vertices, though, I sectioned off the wings from the legs and middle section. This is both an aesthetic and practical change; it will (and did) make creating a nice-looking SVG avatar of the ship easier. |
Interstate Route Road Signs The Interstate Highway route marker. Notes: As with CA State Route and US Route, I used the GIMP to make an animated GIF; this one shows 18 of California's interstate highways. |
Intrepid-class Star Trek U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656, Star Trek: Voyager. |
Invader Video Games One of the iconic alien ships from Midway's classic arcade coin-op Space Invaders. Notes: This was one of the only colored ships that doesn't quite match the ship itself; those shipshape limitations I keep ranting about are to blame. |
iPod Technology My best rendition of an iPod Classic. |
Iron Bone Mister Bone An IRON Bone! |
I-Wing Arthropoids, Star Wars Basically a modification of InsectoidVII, sort of X-wing-ish. Notes: The persona I use with this is named "Rogue Six" (after Rogue Squadron, from Star Wars). |
